--  Important Notice Regarding 2020 Parade  --

Well Sparkman, we almost made it to the 4th without changing too many traditions, but unfortunately COVID-19 has different plans.  Based on new guidelines from both the city and state, some changes to our 4th of July festivities have been made in order to keep our community safe and healthy.  It hasn’t been an easy decision to alter this annual event but rest assured, we are confident that this new approach will still be a ton of fun and maximizes everyone's involvement in a safe way.

Please read on for our new 4th of July festivity details including a NEW park activity for families to enjoy...

PARADE ACTIVITIES

Float Parade – Unfortunately, there will not be a parade this year, HOWEVER, we still encourage the building of floats as they're such a big part of the day here in Sparkman. This year, judges will be mobile and will be traveling the neighborhood looking for award-worthy and creative 4th of July decorations. It can be your yard, your house or a float in front of your house. We have a feeling some streets will quickly devise a fun theme that every house on the street will participate in. And of course, don't forget the 3rd of July street spying that is always so much fun for the kids (there are no rules against water balloon/water gun fights...just sayin). Judging will start at 11:00am and you will recognize the judges in their marked golf carts. Don't worry, bragging rights, trophies and yard signs will still be awarded. To register your entry by July 2nd click here.

Kid’s Parade – There will not be a kid's parade, instead, we encourage kids to continue the fun tradition of decorating bikes, wagons, strollers, etc. and come to the Clubhouse for photos in front of our patriotic backdrop and free popsicles. The photos will take place between 10:00-11:00am and all photos taken will be submitted for the contest. Prizes will be awarded for the most patriotic kids vehicle (bike, scooter, wagon, stroller, etc.) and most patriotic outfit/attire. Winners will receive a ribbon, their picture in the Spark/Gator Gab and a small prize. Parents, we encourage you to post pictures to the Sparkman Facebook page so everyone can virtually enjoy the creativity of our kids we see every year at this event.

Pet Flair – As you stroll around the neighborhood enjoying the festive and patriotic decorations, grab a little swag for your pet. Pet bandanas will be available on the Clubhouse porch for your pooch on the 4th starting at 9:00am (while supplies last).  What self-respecting dog would consider leaving the house on a holiday without dressing up?

POOL DETAILS

Pool time – We are still abiding by the 50% rule so spots will be limited. The pool will be open from noon - 7pm. First block from 12 - 3:15pm. Second block from 3:45 – 7pm. Sign up will be updated on Monday 6/29 at 5:00pm, click here for sign up.

The tournament will be held in the park on the 4th (exact time will be determined at qualifying) with social distancing guidelines in mind.

ALL NEW!! KABOOM in the Park – Friday July 3rd at 9:30pm and Saturday July 4th at 10pm bring your golf cart, chairs and blankets to watch the firework display on a big screen in the park. Social distancing will be required therefore, parking/sitting spaces will be marked and the capacity will be limited 100 people total.

***

The Fourth of July is the biggest event in Sparkman. Get with your neighbors and build a float based on current events, sports teams, movies or whatever you can get 20 people to agree on. There are many resources in and around the neighborhood for materials, ideas and labor. Many neighbors decorate rented trailers from U-Haul or AA Rental to compete for best themed float or the coveted "People's Choice" award.
